4. Semester: Datamatician Course (Computer Science)

Welcome to ITSec

ITSec is short for "Information Technology and Security"

Be aware that ITSec requires independent studying and reading by the individual student.

The major topics at 4. semester are:

IT-Security
Threats, attacks and counterattackes, prevention, digital certificates
Network Security in general
Confidentiality/Cryptography, Authentification, Integrity, Certification & Digital signature
Wireless networks and their vulnerabilities
Pretty Good Privacy (PGP)
Password management and cracking
Salting, dictionary, rainbow and brutal force attack
Database Management Security
SQL-injections. Security, Transaction Management, 2Phase-Locking, Recovery
Secure Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
VPN theory, IPSec-protocol and the setup of a VPN

Penetration
Kali-Linux tools. Attacks using sandbox Metasploit.
Hacking and defence
Man-in-Middle attack
Maybe Blockchain
The principles of authority, wallets and votes.
Maybe Governance
Legal aspects, ISO 27001/002, Practical advices

Practical exercises:

Working on many smaller exercises and homeworks supporting the understanding of the theory.

Great emphasize is given to your understanding of the basic principles and to your technical skills, too. Therefore you have to solve several theoretical assignments and many practical exercises. Some can be solved at the school using your teachers and class mates carefull guidance/help. Others you have to work with and solve at home or in your study group.

ITSec is not like swimming:
You can learn by doing - But it is not enough to do you will have to read about it !

The subjects have been chosen in accordance with the official datamatician curriculum as given by the Danish Ministry of Education and the syllabus at ZIBAT, Roskilde Computer Science..

Teaching Principles
The teaching will be based on classic lectures, discussions, smaller practical assignments, groupwork and individual work and team building/work on the on the mandatory assignments.
Class (10-11 weeks): Lectures 35%, Individual Assignments 25%, Group work 25%, Mandatory Projects 15%

ITSec is closely related to:

Object Oriented Programming, 3. semester.
C# programming
CODS Computer Networks 3. semester
Basic IT-security concepts, SSL

Mandatory assignments
There are 1-2 mandatory assignmets in ITSec.
This will involve groupwork of 4-5 students as well as individual solutions.
The mandatory assignments must be passed.

Exam
There is one exam held after 4. semester.

An oral individual exam in the individual synopsis (5 weeks research)

To proceed to the 5th Semester, all mandatory assignments in all three electives must be passed and a minimum of 02 must be achieved at the exam.

Program enviroment
There are many program enviroments (program enviroment is a word for editor, compiler/interpreter, Virtual Machine etc..) for C#. We shall use Visual Studio for several reasons:

It includes the newest facilities in C#
Relative simple to use (starts up from a prompt, or a simple window with menu, buttons etc.) and not complex.
It is free for students at our school.
